Former NBA player JJ Redick is once again the frontrunner for the Los Angeles Lakers head coaching job.

Redick was initially the leading candidate before the Lakers pursued UConn’s Dan Hurley. Following Hurley’s decision to stay at UConn, New Orleans Pelicans associate head coach James Borrego emerged as the main contender. Now, Redick has seemingly reclaimed his position as the favorite.

According to Marc Stein on Substack, Redick appears to have regained his status as the top choice for the Lakers’ coaching role, provided he still wants the job. A source close to the process indicated that Redick’s appointment seems likely, saying, “You know who is getting the job.”

The Lakers’ coaching search has been tumultuous, with various shifts in focus among potential candidates. Redick, known for his sharp basketball IQ and extensive playing experience, has remained a notable contender throughout the process.

Redick’s potential hiring would mark his first head coaching role in the NBA, a significant step in his post-playing career. As the Lakers finalize their decision, Redick’s candidacy continues to be a focal point of their coaching search.
