Los Angeles Lakers insider suggests that former player JJ Redick is currently the frontrunner for the vacant head coaching position.

Following the dismissal of Darvin Ham, Redick, alongside James Borrego and Sam Cassell, emerged as one of the top contenders for the role.

According to Lakers insider Jovan Buha, Redick holds a slight advantage over other candidates. Buha noted on his podcast that while Redick is currently leading the pack, the situation could evolve during the interview process.

“I still think he is the slight favorite among the candidate pool though again that could always change during the interview process. Maybe someone really impresses the Lakers and takes that designation from him, but right now I believe Redick is slightly ahead of the field,” Buha said, via HoopsHype.

Redick’s recent collaboration with Lakers superstar LeBron James on the “Mind The Game” podcast has likely bolstered his candidacy.

James reportedly holds a preference for Redick to assume the head coaching position, which could influence the Lakers’ decision-making process.

As the Lakers continue their search for a new head coach, Redick’s connection with James and his potential to lead the team could give him an edge over other candidates.
