Indiana Fever/X

Caitlin Clark has been hip-checked by Chennedy Carter in a non-basketball play and faced scrutiny from league veterans who believe she must earn her place. Despite being the league’s new star, Clark isn’t getting special treatment, a point ESPN’s Rebecca Lobo contests.

Lobo and her colleagues aim to dismiss the idea that some WNBA players harbor ill will toward the Indiana Fever rookie.

“It’s a false narrative, and I don’t think there is any jealousy or pettiness that is fueling dirty play,” Lobo said. “Now, is the attention she’s getting on the defensive end unprecedented for a rookie? It absolutely is.”

“Are veterans being physical with her? They are, but I have not seen anything excessive or anything dirty until that Chennedy Carter hit, and that was one of the things that was really unfortunately about it to me. Chennedy gave a previously toothless arguments some fangs.”
