Last month, during an introductory press conference for Indiana Fever’s first overall pick Caitlin Clark, Indianapolis Star “reporter” Gregg Doyel attracted attention for his uncomfortable behavior.
Initially, he gestured for Clark to make a heart sign towards him, similar to her gesture towards her family after games, suggesting it in exchange for favorable coverage. This interaction, captured on video, garnered nearly 50 million views on X.

Caitlin Clark: "You like that?"
Reporter: "I like that you're here."
Caitlin: "Yeah, I do that at my family after every game.ā
Reporter: "Start doing it to me and we'll get along just fine."

Later during the same press conference, Doyel posed a question to Fever head coach Christie Sides about Clark, but once again, in a very peculiar manner.
Gregg Doyle had second exchange that would also be categorized as…creepy.

Gregg Doyel later issued an apology.
“Today in my uniquely oafish way, while welcoming @CaitlinClark22 to Indy, I formed my hands into her signature [heart emoji],” Doyel posted on X.Ā
“My comment afterward was clumsy and awkward. I sincerely apologize. Please know my heart (literally and figuratively) was well-intentioned. I will do better.”
The Indianapolis Star has BARRED Gregg Doyel from covering the Indiana Fever this season after his incredibly creepy interaction with Caitlin Clark during her introductory press conference.
