Veteran center Hassan Whiteside has informed his Puerto Rican team, Piratas de Quebradillas, about his retirement from basketball, according to a report from the Puerto Rican newspaper El Nuevo Dia.

Although he hasn’t officially announced it, he reposted reports of his retirement on Instagram. Whiteside, 34, was the 33rd overall pick in 2010 and had a diverse career, notably excelling with the Miami Heat from 2014 to 2019.

After being traded to the Trail Blazers, he led the NBA in blocked shots in his sole season in Portland. Subsequently, he served as a backup center for the Kings in 2020/21, the Jazz in ’21/22, and played in Puerto Rico in 2023.
