The Golden State Warriors made a bold move at this year’s trade deadline, reportedly attempting to acquire Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James in a blockbuster trade.
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Ramona Shelburne, the Warriors engaged in a 24-hour window of discussions, including owner-to-owner conversations, in an unsuccessful bid to pair James with longtime rival Stephen Curry.
Despite the Warriors’ eagerness to present a compelling trade package to the Lakers, neither the Lakers nor James were willing to explore the potential blockbuster deal.
Encouraged by Warriors star Draymond Green, Golden State owner Joe Lacob reached out to Lakers owner Jeanie Buss to gauge the possibility of a trade, but the Lakers indicated they had no desire to part ways with James.
Buss emphasized the Lakers’ commitment to keeping James content with the franchise, directing the Warriors to communicate with James’ agent, Rich Paul, for further clarification on his stance.
Ultimately, Paul reiterated James’ commitment to the Lakers, expressing the superstar’s desire to remain with the team.
Despite being the oldest player in the league at 39, James continues to excel on the court, averaging 24.8 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 7.8 assists per game this season.
With James on a two-year, $99 million contract, the Lakers remain steadfast in their commitment to keeping the four-time NBA champion in Los Angeles for the foreseeable future. Next season is player option.
