As the San Antonio Spurs’ number one draft pick, seven-foot-four tall Victor Wembanyama, showcases his guard skills, NBA MVP Joel Embiid anticipates a unique challenge in their upcoming game.

Reigning MVP Embiid provided insights into Wembanyama’s mindset, stating, “I don’t think he thinks he’s a center.”

Embiid, who shares a similar versatile approach to the game, appreciates Wembanyama’s view as a basketball player rather than confined to a specific position.

“I think he thinks he’s a basketball player, which is honestly that’s the way I think, too,” explained Embiid, per Ky Carlin of Sixers Wire. “I think I’m a basketball player. I don’t think stuck, you know, whatever point guard, forward, center. I don’t see myself as playing one position, but he has the potential to accomplish a lot of great things.”

Wembanyama’s stats this season include averaging 19.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, and 2.9 assists in just 28.5 minutes per game, highlighting his impact on both ends of the floor.

As the Spurs’ rookie continues to impress with his diverse skill set, the matchup against Embiid becomes a must-watch, featuring two players who see themselves as more than just a traditional center.
