The Brooklyn Nets faced a challenging stretch with injuries and a tough schedule, nearing their worst loss of the season midway through the fourth quarter on Sunday.

However, a defensive clampdown and late scoring, primarily from Mikal Bridges, led to a 102-94 victory over the Washington Wizards at a packed Barclays Center.

Describing it as an “ugly win,” Nic Claxton preferred it to an “ugly loss.” Coach Jacque Vaughn had encouraged the struggling Bridges to keep shooting, especially from 3-point range.

Bridges, despite not intending to take as many shots, ended with a game-high 27 points, leading the Nets to a late 15-0 run and turning a five-point deficit into a win.
