Johnson expressed his admiration, stating, “Victor, man, so smooth, so skilled.” He highlighted the young player’s exceptional ball-handling abilities, emphasizing his capacity to maneuver the ball with finesse despite his towering height of around seven feet.
Having observed Wembanyama’s performance in exhibition games, Johnson recounted the rookie’s impressive dunking skills, even managing to execute dunks over opponents from positions seemingly far from the basket, utilizing both his right and left hands.
Impressed by Wembanyama’s basketball intelligence, Johnson acknowledged the rookie’s potential, emphasizing his belief that Wembanyama’s development under the guidance of Spurs’ coach Gregg Popovich, known for his success with international players like Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili, bodes well for the French phenom’s future in the league.
“His basketball IQ is off the charts,” Johnson said. “And I think he landed at the right place because Popovich has already developed Tony [Parker], [Manu] Ginobili, guys who are international players and he knows what to do with those type of guys.”
