2022 NBA steals leader Dejounte Murray is making it known that the Atlanta Hawks are preaching a defense first mindset.

Reporter: “As far as what’s worked for you guys in the preseason, what’s the top priority that you want to carry over into the regular season next week?”
Murray: “The top priority for us is the defensive end, being together. Knowing if I get beat or you get beat, your teammate got your back. But everything we’ve been preaching, everything we’re watching in film, all those things start on the defensive end. To me I feel like getting a stop is the best offense in basketball because you get to get out and run, get dunks, easy layups, 3-pointers in transition, shoutout to Stephen Curry. But the defensive part is the main priority here. We’ve got a lot of talented guys on the offensive end, but defense is a challenge and we want to do it night in and night out. Then on the offensive end, you’re going to make shots and miss shots, but if you take care of defense, you’re going to be in great shape in the game.”
