2023 NBA preseason lineup notes.

  • Detroit Pistons guard Jaden Ivey has come off the bench so far during preseason. The 21-year-old was a starter last year under then head coach Dwane Casey, but looks like he’s headed for a sixth man role with Monty Williams. Despite the move, I personally see this as a great opportunity for Ivey to improve his efficiency and decision making (41.6% FG/34.3% 3-PT/3.2 TO last season).
  • Atlanta Hawks youngsters Onyeka Okongwu & Jalen Johnson are bringing a ton of versatility right now, which will be much needed without John Collins (traded to Utah Jazz). Okongwu has put up 15.0 PPG/4.0 RPG/1.0 APG/76.5% FG/50.0% 3-PT/100% FT while Johnson is averaging 11.0 PPG/4.3 RPG/4.3 APG/1.3 SPG/61.9% FG/60.0% 3-PT. Also I like the addition of veteran Wes Matthews and the positive impact he’s making through his leadership.
  • You can already see the balance that Naz Reid, Shake Milton, and Kyle Anderson will provide off the bench for the Minnesota Timberwolves this season. All three embrace their roles by playing with poise (Reid- 17.3 PPG/3.6 RPG/1.0 APG/58.8% FG/53.8% 3-PT/71.4% FT, Milton- 9.3 PPG/2.3 RPG/3.3 APG/70.6% FG/57.1% 3-PT, Anderson- 3.3 PPG/1.3 RPG/5.0 APG/45.5% FG).
