Lakers superstar LeBron James had a remarkable high school football career that almost never happened, as revealed by NBA insider Brian Windhorst.

James, who played for the St. Vincent-St. Mary football team, initially considered quitting the sport after his sophomore year.

Windhorst explained that LeBron’s decision to continue playing football was influenced by a tragic event: the plane crash that claimed the life of his favorite singer, Aaliyah. This devastating loss inspired LeBron to overcome his fears and return to the football field.

“He was going to quit football after his sophomore year, then Aaliyah, one of his favorite singers, died in a plane crash. He decided he wasn’t going to live life being afraid,” Windhorst said about James.

“So Aaliyah’s passing got him to come off the sidelines. He skipped the start of his junior year. He missed the first game of the year.

“He joined the second game with no practice, no training camp. He played 12 games at 1,200 yards and 11 touchdowns and was one of the great receivers in the history of the school.”
