NBA insider Shams Charania has reported that free agent forward/center Wenyen Gabriel is in the final stages of negotiations to join the Boston Celtics.
Gabriel, who contributed an average of 5.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game for the Los Angeles Lakers last season, is set to bolster the Celtics’ frontcourt and compete for a crucial role as a reserve big man.
Gabriel’s journey to the Celtics comes after a noteworthy international venture. This past summer he represented the South Sudan national team in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
This event marked South Sudan’s debut on the global basketball stage, and Gabriel played a pivotal role in the team’s historic performance.
Notably, the South Sudanese squad achieved a remarkable feat by finishing at the top among all African nations in the tournament, securing an automatic qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
