The Greek basketball federation has formally communicated to FIBA their desire to host one of the four preliminary Olympic basketball tournaments, which will determine the last four spots in the 2024 Paris Olympics basketball competition.

This decision was largely expected by FIBA, given previous hints from Greece following the recent World Cup.

While the substantial expense, amounting to nearly three million euros, was a significant worry for Greece, the presence of Giannis Antetokounmpo would alleviate these concerns.

The reasoning is that the potential revenue generated from commercial partnerships for the event, spurred by Giannis Antetokounmpo’s involvement, would likely offset the costs.
