MANILA, Philippines – Team USA has perfectly passed their first World Cup test in flying colors.
On Wednesday, Aug. 30, the Americans completely pulverized the Jordan national basketball team, 110-62 to officially sweep their Group C competition of the 2023 FIBA Championships’ Group Phase, first-round set in Mall of Asia Arena.
Unfazed by the past scoring explosions and the Kobe Bryant virality of Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, the U.S. squad completely owned the entire competition as early as the first half upon building a 62-33 massive deficit thanks to Anthony Edwards’ 18 markers.
The Americans ballooned their margin by as many as 41 on the third frame with Brandon Ingram hitting a jumper, 87-46, and didn’t turn their heads around against the helpless Jordanian club in the final frame.
Edwards overwhelmed Jordan with his 22 points and eight boards, shooting 8-of-16 from the field. Jaren Jackson Jr. added 12 and two rejections.
Hollis-Jefferson paced his Jordanian troops with 20 points, but he was held to 6-of-16 shooting upon averaging 31.5 markers in 54.3 percent efficiency in the last two Group Phase matches.
The United States will arrive in the Group Phase’s second round holding an unblemished 3-0 record and are set to face Lithuania and Montenegro from Group D.
