Kyrie Irving, known for his dazzling skills on the basketball court, recently opened up about his strong international connection to the game. While he’s primarily recognized for his contributions to Team USA, Irving revealed a lesser-known aspect of his basketball journey.

“I consider myself an international player even though I played on Team USA,” Irving shared during a Twitch stream, via nbl.com.au. “A lot of my peers laugh at me when I bring it up, and some fans may not agree, but I was born in Australia.”

Irving’s international ties run deep, with his birthplace in Australia. He expressed a strong desire to represent the Australian national team, but circumstances didn’t align with his aspirations.

“Team USA asked me to play for them when I was 17 or 18 … I wanted to play for Australia, but it just didn’t happen,” Irving explained. “Coach K (Former Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski) wasn’t going to let that happen either.”
