The Golden State Warriors’ current dynastic core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green are very much locked in to have their jerseys get retired by the franchise soon in the future. But in the minds of Green, it appears that the Dubs must also consider one of their integral players to be with them also.
In a recent Instagram story, Green echoed his strong support for Kevon Looney’s jersey to be retired by Golden State upon reposting a fan who suggested the idea for the center. The fan stated Nick Collison’s case with the Oklahoma City Thunder as a strong basis for why Golden State has to do it for Looney.
Looney started and continues to progress his career in Golden State since 2015. From being a project player, he went on to blossom as an important piece of their foundation due to his solid frame, interior presence, and impressive rebounding mechanisms that fitted perfectly in catering to their offensive needs for Curry and Thompson. As such, he was also crucial in helping the franchise to revive their dynastic state from last season by winning their fourth title in nearly a decade.
As a role player, it is safe to say that Looney won’t elevate his career anymore into a star which serves as one of the criteria for a player’s jersey to get retired. Nevertheless, he is indeed a special player that Bay Area fans will continue to praise and cherish as one of their own.
