NBA icon Tracy McGrady recently shared his admiration for Dillon Brooks, shedding light on the Memphis Grizzlies player’s competitive spirit and the attention he garnered during a face-off with LeBron James.

Speaking on the Scoop B Radio Podcast, McGrady addressed the media and fan narrative surrounding Brooks’ trolling of James during the Grizzlies-Lakers first-round series.

McGrady voiced his support for Brooks, emphasizing the impact of the player’s competitive approach on his recognition within the league. “I’m a fan of Dillon Brooks and here’s why: If Dillon Brooks doesn’t play the way he plays… Now some of the ‘antics’ I could do without; but I’m talking about from a competitive standpoint.

“If he doesn’t do some of the things that he did last year going at LeBron who was the league’s best player, we’re not talking about Dillon Brooks bro,” T-Mac explained to Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson. The former player acknowledged that while some might disapprove of certain antics, it’s Brooks’ fierce determination that caught people’s attention.

The Grizzlies’ intense showdown with the Lakers saw Brooks making headlines for him trolling James, who was widely regarded as the league’s best player at the time. Los Angeles advanced to the Western Conference Finals but ultimately lost to the Denver Nuggets.

McGrady applauded Brooks for making a name for himself through his competitive edge. “Whether it’s good or bad people are talking about him and in essence, that man just signed an $80 million dollar contract! So whatever he did, it worked for him,” he noted.
