The Los Angeles Clippers have guaranteed the final year of Ty Lue’s contract with them, per Andrew Greif of the Los Angeles Times.

According to Greif, Lue pursued his 2024-25 salary to get guaranteed and even be more lucrative upon both Monty Williams and Gregg Popovich’s massive contract deals for the Detroit Pistons and the San Antonio Spurs, respectively.

Added by Greif, the Clippers barred Lue this offseason from engaging with interested teams to tap his coaching service, and the club instead went on to guarantee the final year of his contract.

It was notable that both the Milwaukee Bucks and the Phoenix Suns were linked up with Lue following another Clippers’ postseason exit from last season.

“I’ve got two years left on my deal, so you know I’m in a good position,” Lue told Greif. “I’m just happy to be where I’m at and go out there and have a good year this year and see what happens. But, like I said, I got two years left on my deal and I’m not really worried about an extension.”

This summer, Lue is glued as a guiding voice at the side of Steve Kerr’s Team USA coaching staff.
