NBA icon Tracy McGrady has spoken out in support of Damian Lillard’s trade request to the Heat. During his appearance on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, McGrady praised Lillard’s commitment and contributions to the Trail Blazers over the past 11 years, stating that Lillard deserves the opportunity to pursue a championship with a team where he can play a significant role.
“Dame has done his job of doing everything he possibly can to win a championship in Portland,” said McGrady (h/t HoopsHype). “He’s giving them everything, and I think Dame, his agent, they’re just looking at it like they don’t have too many great years left in that body, so he wants to win a championship and be a really huge part of why he wins the championship, and that’s with a particular team, and he sees that in Miami.”
Lillard’s desire to join the Miami Heat has been evident for some time now, but a deal has yet to be finalized between the Trail Blazers and the Heat. Despite other teams expressing interest, Lillard’s agent has made it clear that his client only wants to be traded to Miami, adding pressure on Portland to negotiate a deal that meets their expectations.
