Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards has made a significant decision for the upcoming season, announcing a jersey number change from No. 1 to No. 5. Edwards shared the news during a conversation with NBA insider Shams Charania on Stadium, expressing his enthusiasm for the change.

The 21-year-old phenom revealed that the number 5 has always held special significance for him, as it was the number he wore during his high school, college, and AAU days. Edwards initially attempted to secure the number when he was drafted, but it was unavailable as his teammate already possessed it. However, an opportunity arose this year, and Edwards didn’t hesitate to make the switch.

“Five has always been my number – highschool, college, AAU – it’s always been a number to me that I always wanted. I tried to get it when I got drafted I just couldn’t – my teammate had it. Opportunity presented itself this year, so I took it,” he said.

The young shooting guard, who will turn 22 in just four days, believes that the change to No. 5 will elevate his game to a whole new level. “Just a lot athleticism, a lot more dunks, just a different level of play because I got my number on the back now,” he said.

In his third NBA season, Edwards has already demonstrated immense talent, averaging an impressive 24.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per game, earning his first All-Star appearance.
