Pistons’ rising star, Cade Cunningham, is set to hit the court once again. After recovering from a season-ending shin surgery in December, the 21-year-old guard is eager to showcase his skills and prepare for the upcoming NBA season.

Adrian Wojnarowski tweeted that Cunningham will practice and scrimmage with the USA Select team as they gear up to face the Senior Team USA roster in preparation for the FIBA World Cup. The USA Basketball camp is scheduled for August in Vegas

While Cunningham was offered a spot on the World Cup roster, he decided to focus on getting ready for the NBA season.

Cunningham’s return to the court comes after an impressive start to his sophomore season, averaging 19.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and six assists before his injury.

The No. 1 pick of the 2021 NBA Draft had a prior stint with USA Basketball at the 2019 FIBA Under-19 World Cup, where he helped secure the gold medal for the United States.

UPDATE:

According Shams Charania, in addition to Cunningham other rising American stars will join Team USA training camp, namely Chet Holmgren, Jalen Williams, Jalen Green and Keegan Murray.

Charania also reports that Holmgren, Williams and Green will serve as reserves for Team USA and will be eligible to travel to the Philippines in case of an injury by a player on the main squad.
