Desmond Bane has agreed on a five-year, $207MM max rookie extension with the Memphis Grizzlies, per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

With the extension, the Grizzlies have officially locked their core foundations — Bane, Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson — for years to come.

Bane impressively improved himself starting in his rookie year back in 2020-21 into becoming one of the best young stars in the league. He has been the Grizzlies’ main marksman and a reliable two-way swingman who emerged as the team’s second go-to scorer behind Morant.

The 25-year-old increased his averages last 2022-23 regular season to help Memphis in posting a top-two record in the Western Conference. Bane churned career-highs in points (21.5), boards (5.0), assists (4.4) and field goal efficiency (47.9%) for 58 games. He also drained 40.8 percent of his 7.0 three-point attempts average.

Bane previously underwent a broken medial sesamoid bone in his right big toe back in May. The injury bothered him throughout last season and forced him to miss 17 games. Nevertheless, he is expected to make a full recovery heading to September’s training camp.
