Should he get shipped by the Portland Trail Blazers, Damian Lillard only desires to enjoy his contending chances.
According to Bleacher Report’s Chris Haynes, Lillard doesn’t necessarily need to play within a “superteam,” but rather be on a squad that will hand him a chance to compete for a championship.
“He [Damian Lillard] wants to play on a team that has a chance,” Haynes said, who has a close connection with the All-Star guard. “He doesn’t want to be on a team that is stacked, he doesn’t want to be on a team where it’s just 3 All-Stars or 3 superstars.”
The Blazers continue to try putting up solid pieces around Lillard as they hope to convince the franchise cornerstone that they’re still committed to contending. But their failed trade hunting by offering their No. 3 pick has been a critical blow for them.
With Scoot Henderson now at their side, it’s only a matter of time for Lillard to decide about his future in Portland. It was just recently reported also by Haynes that both camps will meet to discuss their plans moving forward.
Lillard has been strongly linked to the Miami Heat throughout this summer. If ever he lands as the reigning Eastern Conference champs, he can’t ask for a much better opportunity to fight for a title with Jimmy Butler at his side.
