Though the past few years suggest that the Boston Celtics were within the Bradley Beal sweepstakes, the club isn’t entirely expected to chase the All-Star guard this time around in the wake of the recent report of a potential trade that may happen from the side of the Washington Wizards according to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst.

Per Windhorst, the Celtics are much inclined on handing Jaylen Brown his supermax contract instead of going for Bradley via trade.

“My feel from talking to sources is that the Celtics are not necessarily in on this one,” Windhorst said on the Wednesday show of NBA Today. “Their intention is to get Jaylen Brown on a contract extension this year. Even if they got Jaylen Brown done, the idea of bringing in Bradley Beal would be extraordinarily difficult because of the three contracts together.

“I don’t think any conversation that involves trading Jaylen Brown is something the Celtics are super interested in right now.”

Despite uncertainty around Brown’s long-term commitment, team president Brad Stevens already expressed his desire to hand him a supermax extension. The All-Star swingman notably obtained All-NBA Second Team honors which made him eligible to sign the lucrative deal with Boston heading into this year’s summer.
