The Australian basketball community eagerly awaits the decision of Ben Simmons regarding his potential participation in the upcoming FIBA World Cup.

The Melbourne Herald Sun reported that Boomers coach Brian Goorjian has left a roster spot open for Simmons, but with the tournament drawing closer, the pressure is mounting for the talented point guard to make a decision. Although no specific deadline was mentioned, it was noted that a decision was expected in early June.

Simmons has expressed interest in representing the Australian national team in the past, but due to various reasons, including professional commitments, he has withdrawn from previous tournaments. However, there is renewed hope as Simmons has been included in Australia’s preliminary team selection pool for the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Goorjian, the head coach of the Boomers, recently spoke optimistically about Simmons’ potential participation, stating that there is a “strong chance” he will join the team. The 25-year-old point guard has expressed his intention to be part of the program in the future.
