In a bold move, the South East Melbourne Phoenix of Australia’s National Basketball League (NBL) are reportedly targeting five-time NBA All-Star John Wall to join their roster for the upcoming season.

According to Code Sports, the Phoenix organization, led by majority owner Romi Chaudhary, has identified Wall, 32, as a potential recruit for their elite import point guard position. Wall already holds a minority stake in the club and maintains a strong relationship with Chaudhary, which could work in favor of the Phoenix in their pursuit.

After sitting out the 2021-2022 NBA season with the Houston Rockets, Wall signed with the Los Angeles Clippers on July 8, 2022. However, his stint with the Clippers was short-lived as he was traded back to the Houston Rockets on February 9, 2023, in a three-team trade involving the Memphis Grizzlies. Wall was subsequently waived by the Rockets just three days later, leaving him without a team since.

During his limited playing time with the Clippers this season, Wall averaged 11.4 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 5.2 assists in 22.2 minutes over 34 games. The Phoenix are now eager to capitalize on Wall’s talents and bring his experience and leadership to their roster.
