Zalgiris won their third title this season. The Greens have already won LKF Cup (Lithuanian Basketball Federation Cup) and Baltic Basketball League. Zalgiris retained LKL (Lithuanian League) title after deafeating arch rivals Lietuvos Rytas 4-1 in the final series. This title puts Zalgiris 16 poitns ahead in Euroleague rating points.
Lietuvos Rytas Serbian head coach Aleksandar Trifunovic said after the game: "I am proud that I coached this team. We had many doubts about this team but we worked very hard and we were one of the best teams this season. We played at a very high level for five months. This is not my opinion, it's an opinion of the specialists".
"There are some objective and subjective reasons why we didn't win LKL", Trifunovic said.
He also thanked the club and the fans for making him feel like he was born and raised in Vilnius. When asked wether it was a goodbye press conference, Aleksandar Trifunovic didn't give a definite answer. The coach said that he is a loyal person and doesn't want to discuss his contract.
Rimantas Grigas, head coach of Zalgiris: "According to the press I was the worst coach. But it only made me stronger. We won nearly every trophy we could win".
He spoke about a long and difficult preparation for the season (Zalgiris travelled to the United States and played against NBA teams). According to Rimantas Grigas, Zalgiris was very well prepared for Rytas tactics and there was only one play that Rytas could complete successfully.
