Having two elite scorers like Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving makes accounting for matchups a nightmare for a defense. The Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd was asked about how the team has taken advantage:
“That question for LD [Doncic]. He would think everyone is [a mismatch], so we try to execute the play. Last night was a little different. They put [Devonte’] Graham on him, and so we wanted to play out of the post a little bit with LD to create the double team or to be able to get him in the paint with the defense collapsing so he can make the right read. We did that early and often.
“I think we tend to not hunt as much now right now with the mismatch because to LD, everyone is, and then Kyrie’s ability to read the situation at a high level. So, for those two, you gotta ask those two that question because those two will say that they can score on anybody.”
