Belarus are the first team to advance to the second round of the 2015 Eurobasket Women tournament but at the other end, the co-hosts still await their first win.

GROUP A

France were by no means at their best, but remain unbeaten in Group A following an 85-75 win over Czech Republic in Timisoara.

Sandrine Gruda led the way for the French with 26 points as they shot 52 percent from the field and condemn the Czechs to a 1-2 record in the group.

The Czechs however can still qualify but will need to beat Romania to have any hope of doing so.

The other game in the group saw Ukraine come from behind to secure a 78-71 win over co-hosts Romania.

With just over six minutes remaining, the Romanians looked on course for an historic victory when they led 67-58 and were seemingly in control, but Ukraine fought back, forcing six turnovers in the vital last few minutes and behind Alina Iagupova’s game-high 33 points, they got their first win of the campaign.

GROUP B

Belarus are the first team through to the second round after they breezed past a strong Turkey side 67-52 in Oradea.

The Belorussians improve to 3-0 and are playing some of the most clinical basketball of the tournament so far. Yelena Leuchenka led the way with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.

Turkey, normally a good bet to go far in these kind of tournaments have so far been unconvincing and will hope that tomorrow’s game against Greece can turn the tide.

That will be a tough ask though as the Greeks are playing fantastic basketball, highlighted by a 59-50 win over Poland in the other Group B clash.

Greece remain unbeaten thanks to a solid defensive display, holding the Poles to 30 percent from the field, as Styliani Kaltsidou led the way with 13 points.

GROUP C

With Russia taking the day off, Serbia took advantage by beating a stubborn Croatia side 89-72 in Szombathely.

Despite glimpses of good basketball, Croatia were no match for Serbia’s transition game, as they scored 19 points in the open court and ran the Croats off the floor.

Jelena Milovanovic weighed in with 18 points for Serbia.

Latvia scored their first win of the tournament as an opening third quarter burst led them to a 67-58 triumph over winless Great Britain.

GB however were in front at the half, but fell apart in the third quarter as the Latvians opened with a 9-0 run to take the lead and never look back.

Anete Steinberga is rapidly growing in influence and now living up to her billing with 25 points to lead Latvia to victory.

GROUP D

European champions Spain survived a late scare to beat the Slovak Republic 82-81 in Sopron.

Alba Torrens. The reigning FIBA Womens Player of the Year top-scored with 20 points; making all 10 of her free throw attempts including 4/4 in the final 20 seconds.

The Spanish remain unbeaten in Group D and hand the Slovaks their first loss.

Lithuania finally got off the mark at the third time of asking as they ousted co-hosts Hungary 72-66, who await their first taste of victory.

A 15-0 run in the second put Lithuania in control, but the hosts launched a spirited fightback and took the lead at 53-52 on the back of an incredible 20 unanswered points. Gintare Petronyte led her team with six points in a 9-0 response, and that was that.

Petronyte finished with a game-high 28 points.
