At the end of this month Gregg Popovich will turn 74-years-old. The Spurs head coach has had an illustrious coaching career, winning 5 NBA championships and Olympic Gold in 2020.

He was asked about retirement – when he would know that it is time to finish his career. Popovich replied in his usual manner.

“That’s a good question. Retire next week, 6 years from now, or after the season, I don’t think about that stuff,” Popovich said, per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. “I think the little voice in my head will tell me that’s enough.

“If I’m tired telling somebody ‘Why you’re getting beat back door so much? Please stay in front of somebody. Maybe you want to touch him and block a little bit. Maybe when you shoot a shot you want to run back with a little bit of effort instead of loathing. Get your ass in here.’

“When I stop wanting to do that, then I’m going to retire.”
