Andrei KirilenkoFIBA Europe announced the winner of the European player of the year award. Andrei Kirilenko led Russia to European title last September and averaged 18 points per game. Although fan voted for Ramūnas Šiškauskas, basketball experts gave 1st place to Kirilenko. Last year award winner Dirk Nowitzki came second.

"Andrei Kirilenko is a deserving winner of this award," commented FIBA Europe President George Vassilakopoulos.

"Very few people expected Russia to win the gold medal this summer and their eventual victory was due in large part to his stellar play."

"Andrei is one of the best players in the world and he proved that this summer in Spain," FIBA Europe Secretary General Nar Zanolin said.
