Gary Payton II will need more time before being back to the hardwood for the Portland Trail Blazers.

According to the team’s release, Payton II experienced intermittent soreness throughout his process of rehabilitation. The pain comes from the surgery he took the last offseason to address a core muscle injury.

The veteran guard will stay on his recovery course and will be re-evaluated for two weeks, as he continues his way toward full team practice participation.

Thankfully even though he is yet to play his season debut, Portland is heading in the right direction with the best start within the West, raising a 10-5 record. His availability soon can only give the club added enforcement, especially on the defensive end.

Fresh from his career year for the Golden State Warriors wherein he helped the franchise win its fourth title in eight years, Payton II earned his bag and inked a three-year, $28 million contract last offseason.
