When the Lakers signed Dennis Schroder in September, some thought that the reason why he chose to return to his former team was LeBron James. It turns out that was not the case.

Instead, Schroder had a long-term connection with Los Angeles’ head coach Darvin Ham who was an assistant coach on the Hawks when he entered the league.

“That [Darvin Ham] was the main reason to be honest,” the German point guard said. “I’ve been with 2013 when I got drafted in Atlanta. He’d been nothing but great to me, learning rom him over the years, staying in touch. He had camps in Germany where I came through to support him. So I call him family and he knows that whatever it takes to win the ball game, I do it.”
