Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns was shelved last week upon being hospitalized due to a throat infection (h/t Brian Windhorst and Ramona Shelburne of ESPN). The ailment held Towns from breathing and forced him to be on bed rest for days.

In his media availability following participation on the team’s non-contact drills this Monday, Towns revealed that he lost a hefty weight. From being listed at 248 pounds, he went down to 231. As such, he didn’t reveal further the nature of the non-COVID disease.

“I wasn’t too worried about basketball for a while. But I miss the game. I love the game. I miss these guys. Sick and tired of recovering at the house and not being able to leave and do anything,” said Towns.

Towns, who missed the whole T-Wolves training camp, also revealed that he only received a clearance to finally be allowed to walk on Saturday to fulfill a team event.

Head coach Chris Finch already noted that Towns will be out for Minnesota’s preseason opener against the Miami Heat.

Towns averaged 24.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and shot 41% on 3-pointers last season, earning himself an All-NBA Third Team honors.
