In Minnesota’s exit interview for the 2021-2022 season, McDaniels is all smiles on detailing his opportunity to train with Kawhi Leonard this offseason. The second-year pro has stated that he had past connections with the Los Angeles Clippers superstar, and he looks forward on the priceless experience he’ll attain in the near future.

McDaniels, 21, is being planned to be brought by his team veteran Patrick Beverley to hit the gym with the two-time Finals MVP (h/t team insider Dane Moore). Beverley stated that he wants the Washington product to view how he and Leonard put up the work.

“Really just going to learn and soak up the game,” McDaniels said. “I’ve talked to Kawhi before I got to the NBA, so I kind of know him a little bit. Really going there to learn from one of the greats.”

He further pointed out that he sees some resemblance with Leonard in terms of how they started their career in basketball.

Coming off a two-year collegiate stint with the San Diego State Aztecs, Leonard had himself a humble beginnings in the powerhouse San Antonio Spurs of the last decade. From being a lanky, corner shooter swingman, he suddenly transformed and became one of the best two-way players the game has ever seen.

“I can see that,” McDaniels on the similarities of his early career with Leonard, according to Jace Frederick of Pioneer Press. “Over the years, he’s added more stuff to his game, started to get more confident on the court. You could see that over time. So I just feel like staying the course, I feel like I’ll be fine.”

McDaniels has been a precious gem and an undisputed core member of the promising Minnesota Timberwolves. In his first postseason, he helped the franchise to put up a strong fight against the second-seeded Memphis Grizzlies, tallying a six-game average of 9.3 points, 2.8 assists and an astounding 1.8 blocks in 52 percent shooting from the field off the bench.

With development already in his mind following a productive season with the T-Wolves, McDaniels is definitely on his way to achieve his potential. With that eagerness to learn, the sky is definitely the only limit for him.
