Before it was clear that the Celtics will face preseason favorites the Nets in the first round of the playoffs, there were talks that Boston should try to avoid facing Brooklyn.

The Celtics players were aware of those talks, says Marcus Smart. But they did not affect them because the team was mentally prepared to face any team.

“We heard it. We all heard it,” Smart said. “It’s funny to us. We don’t duck and dodge nobody. That’s part of the game. We’re going to have to play them eventually. So you might as well get it out of the way now.

“It does feel good. We knew what we were capable of. We knew what we wanted to come in here and do regardless of what anybody else did. And that’s okay. It’s us versus everybody and that’s the mentality we have and that’s the mentality we’re gonna keep.”
