LeBron James will have to make a decision this coming August on whether to sign a two-year extension with the Lakers. The four-time NBA champion still has one more year on his current deal but the team would like to secure his services for the future.

During the season closing press conference the 37-year-old superstar refused to talk about his plans for the extension, citing the rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Previously James declared that he would like to finish his career in Los Angeles. According to various reports, he is enjoying himself in the city and his family has settled there.

But when it comes to his contract, some analysts think that LeBron could approach it the way he did in his second stint in Cleveland which is to go year-by-year. Instead of signing an extension this summer James could play out his current deal and then sign a one-year contract.

A new report, though, quotes sources at Klutch Sports, an agency which represents James, says that there have been no internal discussions on LeBron’s future yet.

“Sources at Klutch Sports insist those internal discussions on James’ future haven’t taken place yet. However, James was non-committal after his exit meeting with the team last week.”
