For Wenyen Gabriel the offer from the Lakers came as a surprise as he was getting ready to travel for a G League game with the Grand Rapids Gold.
“I was with the Bucks and I was working out for the Bucks that same day when I got the call,” Gabriel said. “So I just finished my workout and I spoke to my agent and they were kind of like ‘Let me get back to you’ because I was waiting on the Bucks to hear from them. The Lakers wanted, they had to make different roster moves.
“I was at the airport, I was supposed to be in Grand Rapids for a G League game with the Herd the other day. And then the call came like five minutes before I was supposed to check my bag in.
“So luckily I was in the car with my agent and then once I was outside the car he called me back in, like, ‘Yo come back.’ I was getting ready to go and he called me right back and he let me know what was going on and now I’m here.”
Over three years with NBA teams Gabriel played 58 games 2.6 points 2.1 rebounds in 9 minutes per game.
