Philadelphia 76ers superstar Ben Simmons is still away from the team for personal reasons, while his agent Rich Paul revealed he’s dealing with mental health issues that preventing him from playing.

Paul recently met with Sixers president Daryl Morey and GM Elton Brand to discuss the future of Simmons with the team. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, both sides are still ways away from agreeing on a return.

Simmons has requested a trade from the 76ers prior to the start of the season, seeking a new start elsewhere, and that doesn’t change so far.

“Paul told the Sixers that Simmons’ mental health hurdles continue to preclude him from a return to play with the team, and the desire for a trade out of Philadelphia remains in place, sources said.”

Simmons is signed through the 2024-25 season on a five-year, $177 million maximum contract. The Sixers claim they won’t trade the three-time All-Star unless they receive ‘hefty’ compensation.

Paul is known for his ability to help his clients by forcing a move – the latest example is Anthony Davis – but, the Sixers have the upper hand in the current situation due to Simmons’ being committed to a multi-year contract.
