Michael Porter Jr. might miss the rest of the season due to a back nerve problem, Mike Singer of Denver Post reports. The promising forward slid down to the Nuggets at No.14 in the 2018 NBA Draft because of concerns about his back.

Then, the team sat him his entire first season after a back surgery. Porter signed a five-year contract extension with the Nuggets earlier this season.

“Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. is dealing with a nerve issue in his back that could jeopardize his season, league sources told The Denver Post,” Singer wrote.

“The Nuggets have been vague about specifics of the injury and when Porter might be expected back. They have given him a timeline of a week to show improvements before considering other treatment options. Another back surgery is a possibility, sources said.”

He has struggled this season, averaging 9.9 points per game on 35.9 percent shooting overall and 20.8 percent from beyond the arc.

The Nuggets (9-8) are already without Jamal Murray, who is recovering from ACL surgery. Another long-term injury could jeopardize their chances of making a deep playoff run this year.
