Boston Celtics are ready to finalize a deal for Dallas Mavericks swingman Josh Richardson. After sending Tristan Thompson to the Sacramento Kings in a three-team trade, the Celtics are concluding another deal.

Richardson will exercise his $11.6 million player option for the 2021-22 season for the teams to finalize the trade, as Shams Charania of the Athletic reports.

With this move, the Celtics will create enough cap space for next offseason, and they will seemingly replace Evan Fournier, who is a free agent this summer, with Richardson’s expiring deal.

At the same time, the Mavericks project at roughly $33 million in cap space with Richardson off the books. That should be enough to get them in the running for one of the top free agents this offseason.
