According to Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports, small forward DeMar DeRozan, who became an unrestricted free agent this summer, and the Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James discussed the possibility of playing together in L.A. before the Lakers agreed to a deal to acquire point guard Russell Westbrook from the Washington Wizards:

“San Antonio Spurs unrestricted free agent DeMar DeRozan was in talks with James, sources said, but the Westbrook deal eliminated that option because it would have required a sign-and-trade scenario and a [Kyle] Kuzma inclusion,” wrote Haynes.

This past season, DeRozan, 31, averaged 21.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 6.9 assists while shooting at 49.5 percent from the field for the San Antonio Spurs. For the past five seasons, the forward was making around $27 million per year.
