New Orleans Pelicans were waiting for the NBA Finals to end to announce the deal with Willie Green, who became the new head coach of the team.

Green spent 12 seasons as an NBA player (including one in New Orleans) and then became a coach. He was first with the Warriors, then jumped to Monty Williams’ staff in Phoenix.

After a disappointing finish in their season, the Pelicans seek a new head coach after parting ways with Stan Van Gundy.

Green takes over a job with potential thanks to the Zion Williamson-led roster, but one that comes with immediate expectations. Green is the third coach in three seasons for New Orleans.
