The New Orleans Pelicans are reportedly holding internal discussions about head coach Willie Green’s future, league sources told Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints on Thursday.
New Orleans has stumbled out of the gate in the 2025–26 season, dropping its first four games, including home losses to San Antonio and Boston. The team has yet to win at the Smoothie King Center this month. The last two defeats have been particularly lopsided, with the Pelicans losing 90–122 to the Celtics and 88–122 to the Nuggets.
Zion Williamson has led the team with 21.7 points per game, while Jordan Poole is averaging 17.3 points and 3.3 assists. Despite solid individual performances, the Pelicans have struggled defensively, surrendering over 120 points in three of four contests.
Jeremiah Fears has emerged as a contributor in the backcourt, averaging 13.3 points and 2.3 assists, and Trey Murphy III has added 12.8 points per night while leading the team in rebounds with 5.8 per game.
The team’s rotation has been inconsistent, with bench contributions limited, leaving the Pelicans reliant on their core players. Derik Queen, Yves Missi, and Herbert Jones have had moderate impact, but the lack of depth has been apparent against top-tier opponents.
Green, who has led New Orleans since 2021, is facing scrutiny after a promising offseason failed to translate to early-season success. League sources indicate management is reviewing all options while weighing the coach’s overall track record.
The Pelicans will look to snap their losing streak in their next game against the Los Angeles Clippers on October 31, hoping to regain momentum and stabilize team performance. How the front office responds to the early-season struggles may determine Green’s long-term status in New Orleans.
