Kawhi Leonard could become a free agent this offseason, if he does not exercise the player’s option to remain with the Los Angeles Clippers.

In that case, Leonard, who will become an unrestricted free agent, is expected to draw serious interest from several NBA teams that are in a win-now mode.

According to Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer, the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat will make a ‘hard push’ to acquire Leonard, if he becomes a free agent.

“The Mavericks and Heat plan to make a hard push to acquire Leonard, league sources say. The Knicks will also pursue any superstar that becomes available, and a long list of other suitors would at least make an attempt if he hits the market.”

“Dallas is considered by some executives to be the most serious threat to land Kawhi because of Luka Doncic’s presence and the front office’s ability to create maximum cap space or work out a sign-and-trade. During Leonard’s years with Nike, he also developed a good relationship with Nico Harrison, the Mavs’ new general manager and a former longtime executive at the company,” O’Connor wrote.

After losing the WCF series to Phoenix, the Clippers have a crucial offseason ahead of them, with several key players potentially entering free agency. It remains to be seen if they can keep intact their star duo of George and Leonard and run it back next year.
