The Philadelphia 76ers wanted to trade for Kyle Lowry before the deadline, but the deal never became official on time.

And the reason, according to Kevin O’Connor of the Ringer, was their intention to pursue a bigger star.

“Opinions differ on Philadelphia’s decision not to pursue Lowry harder, but there is a consensus around the league that Morey resisted because he’s angling for an even greater star.

He’s thinking about stars like Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal becoming available. CJ McCollum or Zach LaVine could also appeal to Philadelphia if they are put on the table,” O’Connor reports.

Kyle Lowry eventually remained with the Raptors, even though he attracted a lot of interest from several teams. The veteran guard and 2019 NBA champion will be a free agent this offseason.
