Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doc Rivers agrees with Ben Simmons’ claims over his struggles at the free-throw line being mental. Simmons has been heavily criticized on the back of the Sixers blowing a 26-point lead to lose 109-106 to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night, having missed key free throws down the stretch.

“Definitely, I think, mental,” Simmons, who shot a shockingly poor 4-14 from the stripe, told reporters after the game.

“Obviously I got to knock down free throws and step up and do that, but it is what it is. Coach’s decision,” he said in regard to getting substituted in the fourth quarter.

Rivers was in agreement with his star’s assessment on Thursday.

“It is a mental thing, we all know that,” the coach said, per Kyle Neubeck of PhillyVoice.

“It’s hard to do right now, we just got to keep him working on it, and that’s what he’s doing,” he admitted in reference to working around the issue.
