The Philadelphia 76ers star Ben Simmons is considered one of the best defenders in the NBA. Recently, he received recognition for that as he was named among the three finalists for the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Rudy Gobert, who was named the Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 and 2019, and Draymond Green, who took the honors in 2017, are the other two finalists.

According to Simmons, he only cares about winning the DPOY. Just being a finalist does not excite him. “I probably won’t be excited unless I’m winning it,” said Ben Simmons following practice on Friday, per Justin Grasso of Sports Illustrated. “To be honest, I don’t really care to be top three. I want to be number one. So, until those results come out, I don’t really care.”

Last year, the 24-year-old point forward was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team. So far, that is his only defensive award in his NBA career.
