Dennis Schröder joined the Los Angeles Lakers last offseason hoping to be the third-best player behind LeBron James and Antony Davis.

Schröder is expected to become a free agent after the end of the season, after the Lakers were not able to come to an agreement for a new deal.

Per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report:

“Multiple league executives who have overlapped with Schroder told B/R they believe the ball-handler is looking to be paid like a top-tier point guard, and his role in Los Angeles may not satisfy his interest in being the leading playmaker for a marquee franchise.”

Schröder assumed a starting a role in the Lakers’ uniform this season, after ending second in the Sixth Man of the Year award last season behind his current teammate Montrelz Harrell.

The 27-year-old guard averaged 15.4 points, 5.8 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game this season shooting 43.7 percent from the field and 33.5 percent from deep.
